New course record! That's awesome, Dennis. 81?! That's crazy more than everybody else.

CRIPES, I'm so sub-par, your gonna wait for me during TI3 RIGHT????

A- you could have came with me....

Syd-81? Laps, yes I completely lost track of laps. All I know is that I was that the first 100 was done in 3:45 and I finished like 40 miles ahead of second place.

Matt-I thought we were taking the tandem?

Other points to note:
I was racing a fully faired recumbent, second place(John Schlitter, a friend of mine) was racing an unfaired recumbent. We were both racing the RAAM qualifier(nondrafting) category, but our bikes were in different classes so we were not truly competing against each other. Was fun to see how often I could lap him though ;)

Weather was 26-55 degrees with a good NW wind blowing. Rained for the last half hour. Damn chilly for Florida.

So, are you going to do RAAM then?

This weekend, ya I doubt I go to that race...brr. I might do a road ride on Sunday, but the weather doesn't really look that great for up here even.

very impressive!

Thanks Sam. Sorry to hear about your crappy trip to Fla, sounded like Murphy's law flew down there with you. I hope your world has regained some of it's positive balance.
Kinda funny that I was down there just the weeked before. Small world.
Not much sunshine for me either, but I did manage to enjoy myself irregardless of the crummy weather and frightening population density of that state.

Dennis,

how are you feeling now that it's one week later? How long, time-wise was your longest ride in preparation? If it's not a secret, how much fuel and fluid did you take in?

Randy-
Aside from some slight foot numbness, I was fully recovered on Friday. As a matter of fact I was planning on doing a mtb race Sunday, but it has been rescheduled due to our crummy weather.

Recovery pains went like this:
Sunday-Monday-Tuesday: Ankle, knee joint ligiment pain. Tight tailbone, calves, quads, neck, triceps(why?). Bruising on the shoulderblades, slight soreness on the outside of my forarms from rubbing the shell. Numb feet and left pinky finger.
Wednesday: Tight tailbone, calves.
Numb feet. Went for a recovery ride to stretch out a bit.
Thursday: Tight tailbone, numb feet.
Friday: Sleep wrong, neck is out of place, go to chiropractor. Numb feet(much improved).

My normal weekly diet contains a good deal of protein, glutamine, and vitimin c. I'm always moving at work. And I stretch thoroughly every night. I attribute these things to my prompt recovery.

Fueling during the race was a 50/50 mix of Hammer Nutrition's Sustained energy and Heed in a 50oz bladder bag and a 50oz bladder bag of water(i think I refilled 3 or 4 times) plus random amounts of Hammer gel, gummy bears(to help keep me awake), knox blocks, 1 PB+J, 1 bowl Ramen noodles, and E-caps endurolites.

Fueling is the toughest part to figure out. I did much better this year, but I still have much to improve. Eat too much and you put yourself to sleep, eat too little and you bonk. Everybody is different, what works for me may not work for you.

Secrets do no good deeds. I'm a liberal.

You can call yourself a true liberal when you are willing to share the fitness and health benefits from your work in cycling with the couch potatoes, resulting in lower fitness and health for yourself of course.

I'm conservative, not in the Republican Party sense, but in the natural law sense.

I think the only difference between a Republican and Democratic politician is the strategy they use to dupe the public into voting for them. I think they are equally driven by money, power, and fame (all qualities I find rupgnant).

I hope I haven't crossed the line. Your pointing out that you're a liberal gave me an indication that you weren't averse to discussing it.

Btw, it's open season on my blog. If you object or disagree with any statement I make or philosophy I espouse feel free to tell me so.

Randy-

I suppose having three more bent builds in the shop for people other than myself might put me closer to that definition. They are, however, all active cyclists themselves. I am trying to spread the wealth of knowledge and benifits of recumbent riding.

You are correct in your political party assessment, they are the same. There are more than two parties however.

I usually try to refrain from discusions involving politics and religion. They are highly corrupted parts of our society that cause as much harm as good. Argueing about them is a futile excercise in redudancy. My time is better spent elsewhere.

I generally dislike those who's intentions are driven by money, power, and fame no matter who they are. I do what I do because I enjoy doing it, I try to make morally correct decisions, and I try to help others in areas I have expertise or experience to offer.

I won't shoot you down for your thoughts or opinions. As far as I can tell they don't differ that much from mine. And after all this is supposed to be a free country.

Dennis.

Congratulations on the excellent showing at Sebring. I think that you have created a lot of positive buzz for yourself. Obviously not your intent, but it's happened. :)

Dennis,

I don't think our positions differ either regarding giving, I just found it interesting on a philosophical level that you attributed it to being liberal.

A few weeks back the television show 20/20 did a survey and found that conservatives gave more than liberals both in total amount and as a percentage of income. The same was true for "red" states versus "blue". I found that interesting as the media usually paints liberals as the good guys.

Lest you think I have a political or religeous agenda know that I'm registered as an independant and am an atheist.
